Legal Counsel

Drafting, negotiating and advising on general commercial contracts including, service agreements, design agreements, supplier agreements, NDAs, consultancy agreements and technology contracts.  Dependent on the selected candidate, we may look to undertake our legal construction contract work in-house (NEC3)

Responsible for:

Drafting, negotiating and advising on general commercial contracts including, service agreements, design agreements, supplier agreements, NDAs, consultancy agreements and technology contracts.  Dependent on the selected candidate, we may look to undertake our legal construction contract work in-house (NEC3)

Maintenance and management of commercial contract precedents and templates (such as our standard T&Cs), including updating for legal, policy or regulatory changes

Managing the outsourcing of commercially significant matters/contracts or specialised work to external counsel and presentation of advice/conclusions internally

advise on various day to day ad hoc issues facing the legal team including in relation for example to corporate work, employment law advice and handling items of litigation

assistance with regulatory work, e.g. responding to Ofcom consultations and updating our customer contract to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.  Further information provided on this aspect of the role on request

assistance with company secretarial matters, such as filings at Companies House and board minutes

maintaining and updating key legal policies, procedures and processes (such as GDPR, the purchase order process and the internal contract review process)

Core skills required:

  • 3-5 PQE, ideally with either a construction or commercial law background

  • Previous in-House experience (ideally)

  • Commercial mind-set and be constantly seeking solutions

  • Excellent attention to detail, administrative capabilities and drafting skills

  • A good level of IT skills

  • An ability to influence and communicate within all levels of the organisation and appreciates the different demands of an in-house role

  • A self-starter attitude, combined with the ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking while working in a collaborative, team environment

  • Ability to work independently and comfortable making decisions
